Something fascinating happened the other day. I was watching a basketball match IRL (In Real Life) and missed one of the slam dunks. My fingers immediately twitched, looking for the rewind button I usually use on YouTube or VLC. It’s hilarious when you think about it – ‘cuz I was outside and there was no screen in front of me. But it’s a subtle sign of how technology can take over lives.
I remember reading about a similar thing that a TV producer experienced. At work, he’d give instructions about which camera angle to focus on, and the technicians would have to work super fast to get the right angle at the right time. It was obviously a high-tension situation. But the crazy part is that after spending hours at work, having his commands followed quickly and precisely, this TV producer found himself bringing work life back home. So, he’d get really annoyed when he asked his son or wife to do something and they didn’t respond fast enough.
These are great examples of how we built tech, and now tech seems to be building a new kind of us. And with AI coming into our homes, I wonder what that’s going to bring. I’m not pessimistic about it, per se, but it’s worth discussing. I’ll think about it and share my thoughts in my next post.
